Sorry for the long absence! I’m finally done with my first semester at Boston University MFA program! I worked like crazy the past few months and (thank god) my final critique went well. I really learned a lot this semester. Really delved into printmaking in full force. I love it! and it’s doing wonders to my painting. I can see why people say printmaking and painting go hand in hand. although I don’t have masterpieces to show, but check out my new works from Fall 2009!
"Intending to bring consciousness to the evolving definition of femininity, Liao explores color and aggressive mark making to convey her ideas. "De-Mask"—an 54" square oil painting completed in 2008—conveys the frustration of a child [or a nation]. The title implies that we all wear masks, which we can alter but can’t remove. It’s an impressive piece for a young up-and-coming Artist."
-Chuck Gniech, Professor of Art and the Exhibition Curator for Gallery 180 of The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago
“The work strongly shows texture, and emphasizes emotions. I felt that the techniques used helped to convey sadness along the eyes of teh young girl in the portraits, thus drawing the viewer to her world. Also, the technique itself implies a hint of grotesques of which the artist seems totally unafraid to portray.”—Sheila Pree-Bright, Juror of the Visual Overture Magazine (http://www.visualoverture.webs.com/)
